メジャーレーベルよりCDデビューし、４１年間ニューヨークに住み国際的に演奏活躍をする。ケニー・ギャレット、フランク・ウェス、ビリー・ヒギンズなど数々の有名ミュージシャンと共演し、ニューヨークのブルーノートやカーネギーホールなどで演奏。マンハッタン音楽院卒業後コロンビア大学で教育学博士号を取得し、同大学で長年教鞭も取った。２０１８年に活動拠点を日本に移す。
